1. DISCIPLINE POLICY


Each student has the right to learn, and to be safe and happy at school both in and out of the classroom. All students and staff have the right to be treated fairly and with dignity in an environment free from disruption, intimidation, harassment and discrimination. To achieve this, schools are expected to maintain high standards of discipline.

2. MOBILE PHONE

For Students

SCPS strongly discourages students from bringing mobile phones to school. 

Parents are reminded that in cases of emergency or when messages need to be passed onto students the school office remains the sole point of contact and will ensure any student is contacted and assisted in an appropriate and timely manner.



For Staff

During teaching time, while on playground duty and during meetings, mobile phones should be switched off or put on ‘silent’.


For Parents

At all official school functions, during meetings mobile phones should be switched off or put on ‘silent’.

3. ANTI-BULLYING POLICY


South Calcutta Public School have a discipline policy which aims to develop in each student a moral, purposeful, self disciplined attitude in an environment of trust, respect and responsibility. At South Calcutta Public School students have the right to attend a school free from bullying. 


Bullying can be defined as intentional repeated behavior by an individual or group of individuals within the school campus that cause distress, hurt or undue pressure. 


Bullying behavior can be

  • Verbal e.g. name calling, teasing, abuse, putdowns, sarcasm, insults, threats

  • Physical e.g. hitting, punching, kicking, scratching, tripping, spitting

  • Social e.g. ignoring, excluding, ostracizing, alienating, making inappropriate gestures

  • Psychological e.g. spreading rumors, dirty looks, hiding or damaging possessions, malicious SMS and email messages, inappropriate use of camera phones.

This policy has been developed to deal with any bullying at South Calcutta Public School and should be read in conjunction with the discipline policy. 


Statement of Purpose


Students, teachers and parents have a shared responsibility to create a safe and happy environment, free from all forms of bullying so that students can become self directed, lifelong learners who can create a positive future for themselves and the wider community. 


Students, teachers, parents, caregivers and members of the wider school community have a responsibility to:

  • Promote positive relationships that respect and accept individual differences and diversity within the whole school community

  • Contribute to the development of the Anti-bullying Plan and support it through words and actions

  • Actively work together to resolve incidents of bullying behaviour when they occur.

Each group within the school community has a specific role in preventing and dealing with bullying. 



Students have a responsibility to

  • Behave appropriately, respecting individual differences and diversity

  • Follow the school Anti-bullying Plan

  • Respond to incidents of bullying according to their school Anti-bullying Plan

Parents have a responsibility to:

  • Support their children in all aspects of their learning

  • Be aware of the school Anti-bullying Plan and assist their children in understanding bullying behaviour

  • Support their children in developing positive responses to incidents of bullying consistent with the school Anti-bullying Plan

  • Support all students of the school to deal effectively with bullying through the strategies of the Anti-bullying Plan

Schools have a responsibility to:

  • Develop an Anti-bullying Plan through consultation with parents and students, which clearly identifies both the behaviours that are unacceptable and the strategies for dealing with bullying in the classroom and playground

  • Inform students and parents about the School Discipline Code and Anti-bullying Plan.
